POLICY STATEMENT AND SUMMARY
The Information Technology Office (ITO) of the University of the Philippines Mindanao is committed to providing high-quality and secure information technology services to support the academic and administrative functions of the institution. To achieve this goal, the ITO has developed a policy for IT-related resources used in the university and the services offered to stakeholders. The contents of this policy reflect the guidelines set in the Acceptable Use Policy for IT Resources of the UP System. This policy will be reviewed and revised periodically to ensure its effectiveness and relevance to the university’s needs. Any changes made by the UP Information Technology Development Center (ITDC) will be implemented in this policy accordingly. Any revisions will also be communicated to all affected parties.
SCOPE AND APPLICABILITY
This policy applies to all UP Mindanao students, faculty, REPS, and administrative staff who use IT resources owned, managed, maintained, leased, or rented by the University of the Philippines Mindanao. It covers all IT resources used on the university campus or within the university network. The policy applies to all IT-related equipment and facilities, including but not limited to servers, network infrastructure, and software applications.
PURPOSE OF THE POLICY
The purpose of this policy is to identify and prevent the misuse of IT resources and to ensure that all constituents understand their responsibilities when using these resources. This policy aims to provide guidelines for the proper use of IT resources, and ITO services to protect the university’s information assets, and to comply with applicable laws and regulations.
DEFINITION OF KEY TERMS
- IT resources: All hardware, software, network infrastructure, and other related technology resources owned, leased, or rented by the university, including but not limited to computers, servers, printers, storage devices, mobile devices, and software applications.
- User: Any person who uses the IT resources of the university, including but not limited to students, faculty, REPS, administrative staff, contractors, and guests.
- ITDC: The UP Information Technology Development Center of the University of the Philippines System, responsible for providing technical support, services, and solutions to IT needs, including IT training, software or applications development, and ICT consulting.
- UP System: The University of the Philippines System including all its constituent units.
